FUTURE
POWER PACK PRODUCTS & APPLICATIONS
The Power Pack is the world’s first consumer
fuel cell product. It’s based on Medis’ proprietary Direct
Liquid Fuel Cell (DLFC) technology. This DLFC technology is based on
seven years of research and development. The result is a break-through
in fuel cell performance, cost and accessibility.
DLFC technology is a platform technology that, can
be extended to other fuel cell product offerings. By extending our established
technology to larger format fuel cell products, Medis is in a unique
position to create an entire family of fuel cell products that provide
a cost effective high performance solution. We have already developed
and demonstrated several higher power (5W to 20W) fuel cells prototypes
for military and consumer applications and we are working now to develop
our second generation product line.
Some of the potential future products under development
today include:
POWER PACK CARTRIDGE
SYSTEM
The Power Pack product is a single-use, non-refuelable product. Future
generation Power Pack product offerings are under development where
the Power Pack will be rechargeable using a fuel cartridge system. This
will extend the product life and provide and a lower use cost to the
consumer.
MILITARY APPLICATIONS
Portable fuel cell power products are an excellent solution for the
military because of their long life, no noise, no odor and low thermal
signature. Medis is working with General Dynamics C4 Systems to promote
the 24/7 Power Pack for military use by the Department of Defense in
GSM secure phones, PDAs and other uses as well as for sales to the Department
of Homeland Security. Potential applications include:
- Military GSM Secure & Secure Smartphone applications
- Unmanned sensors
- Ruggedized tablet computer applications
Medis is also developing an 800W fuel cell prototype
for Israeli Aircraft Industries (IAI) for UAV (unmanned air vehicles)
applications. UAVs use powerful electric engines to silently fly the
craft over long distances for extended operating time. Our fuel cell
technology could help extend mission times in the field.
LAPTOP APPLICATIONS
Medis announced programs for the development of refuelable fuel cells
for laptop computers. Plans are to deliver 15-20 watts and 12-15 volts
for a period of 8-10 hours on each refueling. The right fuel cell source
could enable laptops to run intensive business applications such as
multimedia, graphics and computation programs, while performing tasks
such as security updates and scheduled maintenance without draining
PC battery power. These capabilities could provide added stability for
increased productivity, access to information and customer service.
SMALL OFFICE / HOME
OFFICE APPLICATIONS
Medis announced programs to develop refuelable cartridge fuel cell products
to be used for stationary power / backup for small office and home office
use. The initial product concept has a preliminary size of approximately
40x60x50cm and a system weight of approximately 25 Kg, 30 month program.
